As we mentioned recently, we would like to reach out to common folks and find out from them how they have been feeling in this weather and dealing with the air quality. In this segment, we decided to reach out to a pharmacy to find out if there was a jump in the number of people coming to buy new masks and purifiers

When we asked a pharmaceutical salesman in a Rohini pharmacy about the number of customers coming in to buy medicines relating to respiratory issues like coughing, wheezing, dry throat, breathing difficulties, allergies and so on, he said, “We usually get 15- 20 customers daily coming in to buy cough related medicines or dust allergy medicine. This number has gone up by approximately 50% in the last couple of months. Earlier hardly 5-6 customers would come with cough problems. Due to air pollution in Delhi citizens are facing more respiratory problems. People are also coming in to buy mask on daily basis.”

This clearly indicates that the number of people facing respiratory problems has significantly increased. It has also been said that breathing Delhi’s air is like smoking 50 cigarettes a day. Not only that Delhi has also been called as a ‘gas chamber’ in last few months indicating how bad the atmosphere has become.
