Value Chain Engineering for Offshore UK Wind Farm

About the project: This was an was an ambitious giga watt scale offshore wind project in the UK. Before initiating the six phase, seven year construction program, the client wanted to address the challenge of rapidly changing technologies, market dynamics and cost economics. The team conducted in-depth research, econometric forecasting and exhaustive interviews of stakeholders and industry experts to develop a supply chain plan for the project including market intelligence on wind turbines, foundations, electricals and other installations. Besides, the team also undertook analyses on should-cost and economies of scale benefits.

As a result, 13% reduction in projected capital and operating expenses could be achieved. Because of pre-determination of project cost and prior identification of bottlenecks and plans to troubleshoot them, operational risks and associated costs were minimized.

About the client: Client is a Swedish renewable power major and one of Europe’s biggest producers and retailers of electricity. The company is mainly present in Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and Sweden. The Group has approximately 20,000 employees. The company seeks to gradually phase out the use of fossil fuels and thus turn carbon neutral by 2030 in the Nordic countries, and by 2050 globally.
